Nestled between the provinces of Maputo and Inhambane, is the relatively unknown Gaza Province, which holds many beautiful places to discover.
The coastal zone is about 150km long, offering good conditions for recreational fishing, swimming, windsurfing and jet skiing. The beautiful popular beaches of Bilene, Zongoene, Xai-Xai, Chongoene, Chizavane, and Chidenguele have sunny, white sandy beaches, idyllic sunrises and sunsets, shells, whales, dolphins and turtles. Most have boat launch sites and areas protected by reef. Chidenguele and Bilene also have magnificent inland lakes. The area is also perfect for beach weddings.
Central is Praia de Xai-Xai, south is Bilene and north is Chizavane and Chidenguele.
Inland you have lovely conservation areas, Limpopo and Bahine National Parks. Also located inland is the district of Massingir where you can find Mozambique's second largest dam, Massingir Dam.
From luxury to rustic accommodation - activities such as horse riding, quad bike tours, fishing charters and whale watching - this is certainly the next place to have your holiday - and Xai-Xai is only 250km from Maputo.
This area is an all year round holiday destination, with hot summers and mild winters. It is the perfect place to escape cold winters.

Large Natural Coral Reef
A large coral reef runs parallel and quite far offshore (for approx. 160m) - a haven for snorkeling and diving. This reef naturally protects the bay from strong waves and ocean currents during high tide allowing for calm & safe for swimming. Beautiful coral pools can be explored during low tide and plenty of shells can be found.

Sea turtles lay their eggs on the beaches between December and February - a fascinating spectacle not to be missed! However we strongly urge onlookers to kindly respect nature and not interfere by keeping a decent distance from these beautiful creatures.

Wenela Tidal Pool
Wenela Tidal Pool is a natural underwater blow-hole about 2km South of Xai Xai's main beach. The tidal pool has an underwater channel flowing directly into the ocean creating a "blow-whole" effect. A tidal pool to SEE and not to swim in!
