Malaria and Medication
Malaria is endemic to this region, so please seek advice from your medical practitioner for anti-malaria medication before you travel. Remember, some medications require you to start taking the medication before arrival.
If you take any special medication, be sure to bring enough with you to last the entire visit.
Passport and Visa Requirements
To enter South Africa/Zimbabwe, all foreign nationals need a passport valid for at least 30 days after the intended date of departure. Ensure that your passport has at least two blank visa pages for entry stamps. Check your country’s visa requirements with the South African/Zimbabwean embassy.

What to pack
You will feel most comfortable wearing cool cotton layers in light shades like khaki.
- Bring a swimming costume, walking shoes, hat and warm jacket and trousers for those cooler evening game drives.
- Don’t forget sunscreen, medication, sunglasses, anti-malaria medication (optional), your own medication, reading glasses and contact lenses
Weather
Zimbabwe experiences 3 dramatic seasons. Traditionally the dry season, April to October, has been the time for game viewing as the vegetation is less lush allowing better opportunities to see. But many visitors like the wet season which is November to March, summer being a great time to view migrant birds from the North. Fishing is superb in September and October.
The average temperature in summer is between 25C to 35C (77 - 95 Fahrenheit) and in winter from 6C to 24C (43 - 75 Fahrenheit). Zimbabwe generally has a moderate climate with intense heat felt usually in the valleys.
Season Highlights
- Hot and dry: From August to October, game concentrations are at their height toward the end of this period. October is also the hottest month.
- Cool and dry: Warm, sunny days and cool nights characterise the period from May to August which are the dry winter months.
- Warm and wet: From November to March, the rainy season is magnificent; vegetation takes on a vibrant green colour becoming a lush jungle.
